God Bless the Finesse Remix

Something magical happened at 12:00am today.

Perhaps "magical" isn't the right word - I would say it was more-so a spiritual experience. At midnight, I was visited by the Trinity: Bruno Mars, Cardi B, and 90s nostalgia.

At midnight on January 4th, Bruno Mars dropped the song and video for the "Finesse" remix featuring Cardi B. The song, much like the original, bangs. The real gift, however, is the accompanying visual.

The music video for the "Finesse" remix is a tribute to the gone but never forgotten gem of the 90s, In Living Color. The video is packed with incredible dancing, envy-inducing 90s fashion, and a set so close to the original In Living Color set that I checked the date a few times just to make sure that I was, indeed, still in 2018. Bruno Mars has already proven that he can dance in any decade, and Cardi B drops bars in a flow remniscent of your 90s faves while looking abso-fucking-lutely stunning in the fashion of the time.

I wish I could say that this video didn't make me cry. But I can't. The nostalgia and the Blackness... It shook my little woke 90s baby heart.

The release of the remix does feel a bit strategic - it's a great way to kick off the new year but it's also a jammin' reminder of the fact that Bruno Mars is currently up for Album of the Year. His video serves as proof that his nomination is for good reason: the man is damn good at what he does. I, for one, am not mad at him. Earn yo Grammy, baby. Release whatever you want, I will be here.

In the meantime, I'll keep salivating over the present gift we've been given and the incredible collab we never knew we needed.  Thank you, Bruno. Thank you, Cardi. Thank you, the 90s, special shout-out to the Wayans Brothers.

In Based God's name we pray.

     Amen.
